Love Parks Week: 24-29 July 2022

Celebrate Love Parks Week 2022 and take part in our jam packed programme of free activities taking place across the borough.

 

From information sessions to bushcraft activities and traditional playground games the range of activities on offer is sure to inspire children and adults alike to get outside and enjoy our beautiful parks and green spaces.

See the full list of FREE activities on offer below. Many of the activities need to be booked as spaces are limited so book early to avoid missing out.

How to Book

Balsam Bash

Kids activities are FULLY booked

Date | Saturday 23rd July

Location | Oxford Island

Time | 10.00am – 4.00pm

Himalayan Balsam is a highly invasive plant that outcompetes our native plants for space, light, nutrients and pollinators. Luckily for us, it has a shallow root system, so can be quite easily pulled up by hand – which also happens to be very satisfying! Join us to tackle its spread and do our bit for conservation and biodiversity.

No previous experience necessary. Please wear sturdy footwear, long sleeves and trousers. Gloves will be provided.

Free activities for the kids

10am-11.30am Play Session | 12pm-1.30pm Bush craft activities | 2pm-3.30pm Bugs & Beasties Hunt

Tannaghmore Farm Tour

The Tannaghmore Farm Tour is fully booked

Date | Monday 25th July

Location | Tannaghmore Farm

Time | 10am

Meet your tour guide at the front gates of the farm who will introduce you to our resident farm animals, you will learn how we take care of our furry friends throughout the year.

This activity is suitable for children over 3 years old.

Please note: booking is essential and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Recycling Information & Bushcraft Activities

Date | Monday 25th July

Location | Portadown People’s Park

Time | 10am – 12pm

Learn how you can do your bit to help the environment and also learn a few survival skills such as whittling and safe fire building.

There is no need to book into this session, feel free to pop in the recycling and bushcraft team would be happy to see you.

Tree Study & Activities

This activity is FULLY BOOKED

Date | Monday 25th July

Location | Woodlands Park, Gilford

Time | 10am – 12pm

Learn how to identify the majestic giants of our countryside.  Activities will include bark rubbing, seed collection and the life cycle of trees.

Please note: booking is essential and children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Multi Sport Activities

This activity is FULLY BOOKED

Date | Monday 25th July

Location | Dromore Town Park

Time | 2pm – 4pm

These sessions allow children to blow off some steam while learning new skills under the supervision of our talented coaches.

Suitable for children aged 5 – 12 years old.

Forest School Taster Session

Forest School Taster Session is now fully booked

Date | Tuesday 26th July

Location | Tannaghmore Farm

Time | 9.30am

The ethos of forest school is about allowing children to evaluate their own risks while playing on rope bridges and swings and building dens and making fairy houses.

Suitable for children aged 6-10 years old.

Chi Me

This activity is FULLY BOOKED

Location | Lurgan Park

Time | 9.30am

Start your day with a short session of relaxing exercises in an outdoor setting with the sun shining on your back (fingers crossed), followed by a light breakfast.

This activity is for adults only.

Traditional Playground Games

The Traditional Playground Games Session is fully booked

Date | Tuesday 26th July

Location | Palace Stables, Armagh

Time | 2pm – 4pm

Join the play development team and try your hand at some traditional playground games such as skipping, hula hoops and hop scotch.

Suitable for children aged 4 – 8 years old. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Foraging Tour

The Foraging Tour is fully booked

Time | 7pm

Join our knowledgeable tour guide for a walk around Lurgan Park to learn about hyperlocal, super seasonal foods as you get a revealing glimpse into the local areas environment, history and traditions.

Join our local historian on a walk around Lurgan Park and learn a little about the history of the park and how it links with the town and Brownlow House.  The Lurgan Spade might get a mention!!!
