Council Launches Sports Bursaries

October 20, 2021

Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Sports Forum is delighted to announce their Sports Bursary Scheme. in association with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council, is now open for applications.

Now in its fourth year, these awards are designed to support and facilitate the development of aspiring performers who reside in the Borough and have the ability and potential to bring credit to the area with success at Provincial level or higher.

Lord Mayor, Alderman Glenn Barr, said, “I am thrilled that the ABC Sports Forum has launched their Sports Bursaries to assist our top athletes who have the potential to compete and achieve success at the top level within their sport.  I appreciate the heavy financial burdens these individuals face and am delighted that we can offer this financial support to help them to achieve their dream.  I want to wish them well for their future training and competition.”

The Sports Forum has created the Sports Bursaries for athletes who have the capacity to compete and achieve success at a very high level within their sport. Their aim is to support competitors of proven ability at junior and senior levels whose standing, judged against World, British and Irish standards, indicates potential to compete with credit at international level or with distinction in British and Irish Championships.

The bursary award levels are broken down into two sections: 1] Development and 2] Ambassador, with set criteria for each. The Sports Forum will assign a budget for each level of award and not all individuals who meet the set criteria will receive awards due to financial limitations.  Applications will close on Wednesday 1st December @ 5pm.
