Bronach’s inspirational C25K journey!
Running was completely new to Bronach McFall when she started out on the Couch to 5K programme in 2024. Following the programme, she now runs 5K several times a week, has completed 10K runs and has three more 10K runs in her diary over the next few months!
Bronach got a breast cancer diagnosis in May 2023 and as part of her recovery from an operation one month later, Bronach signed up for the virtual option of Couch to 5K. This was something she was determined to achieve. Bronach says:
“Both my daughters, Hannah and Molly run, and this was something I really wanted to tick off the list with the girls.
“I signed up for the virtual programme, which allowed me to train and build up my stamina around my recovery, work and family schedule and it worked perfectly for me! The weekly communications and advice from the coaches also helped to keep my motivation on track.
“Taking myself off for a run for a half hour or more during the training was great for my head space and I got a real buzz from the sense of achievement of hitting all the milestones along the way. What can I say, I definitely got the running bug!”
For the majority of people undertaking the Couch to 5K programme, it isn’t about pace or times. It’s about setting yourself a goal and using the support of the coaches and fellow runners to help you along the way to cross the finish line and prove that you did it!
Bronach’s advice to anyone keen to get their mind and body in better shape is “Believe in your own ability. The body is capable of incredible things, even when you doubt it. The Couch to 5K is a powerful programme, whether it’s in person or virtually, that will help you stay focused for success. You’ve got this!”
If you feel inspired by Bronach’s story, take the first step to a fitter you! The next Couch to 5K programme starts on Monday 28 April 2025 at Lurgan Park. There is an in-person option and a virtual option – do what works for you! Click here to find out more or to sign up!
