Gilford Community Centre sits on the banks of the River Bann and provides activities for the local community with an ultra-modern, Quest Accredited indoor and outdoor facility.

Disabled Go works in partnership with the Council to provide an access guide to over 450 public venues.  A range of venues are included in the guide such as leisure centres, shops, hotels, restaurants, council buildings, community centres, places of worship and many more.

Gym

Our fitness suite is a 500sq foot, 26 station fitness facility that offers a wide range of state of the art equipment including:

  • cardiovascular equipment
  • 5 treadmills
  • 2 cross-trainers
  • 4 upright cycles
  • 2 rowing machines
  • resistance equipment
  • 7 machine resistant weight stacks
  • a chin up bar
  • selection of free weights.
  • squat rack
  • Olympic bar
  • Dumbbells up to 32kg

OAP session – £2.25

Climbing Wall

Gilford Community Centre has a state of the art climbing wall for use by clubs, groups and individuals. Suitable for ages 8+, the wall has 8 Auto Belay routes of varying difficulty to challenge everyone from beginner to experienced climbers!

Our bouldering area is also available to practice your moves before attempting the wall.

The wall can be hired for private parties our for 1 hour sessions which includes the use of a harness and advice from our Climbing Instructors.

  • Adults – £7.00
  • Concession – £5.00
  • Competent Climbers – £3.50 (Must be signed off by our Instructors prior to first session)

Children's Climbing Programme

Sports Hall

The sports hall comprises of four courts and can facilitate the following activities:

  • Badminton
  • Indoor Football
  • Netball
  • Table tennis
  • Martial Arts (matted and non matted)
  • Bouncy Castle Parties
  • Various Fitness Classes

The main hall can be hired to accommodate special events with a maximum capacity of 1000 seated or standing. For more details please contact the centre.

Canoe Slalom

The Upper River Bann is a fantastic natural outdoor resource running through the district. Not only an excellent wildlife corridor it has been described as ‘one of the best white water canoeing rivers in NI’ and is extensively used by clubs, individuals and training centres.

Located within the stretch of the Upper River Bann that runs through Stramore Park in Gilford and immediately adjacent to the Gilford Community Centre, our new 115m beginners Canoe Slalom course runs from the canoe steps at the Centre down to a new set of canoe steps at Bridge Street.

The footbridge links the two sites and provides an excellent vantage point to watch the paddlers close to the excellent facilities at the centre. We have ample car parking beside the Linen House Restaurant and Tea Rooms.

Trim Trail

We have a trim trail providing 8 outdoor fitness stations including Pull Up Bars, Tricep Dip Bars, Sit Up and Balance Beams. A walkway between each station allows you to either run or gently stroll from one station to the next.

Picnic tables and seated benches are also provided for members of the public and the site is accessible 7 days per week from the gates at the Bridgewater car park.

Event Details

The climbing course is open to all abilities, so if have always wanted to try your hand at climbing this is a great opportunity for you to have a go. The climbing wall has a varying sections of difficulty and therefore participants will have the opportunity to challenge themselves as the week goes on.

Fitness FAQ

I have never used the fitness suite before can I start today?

All we ask is that our users are registered.  This means you need to complete a Medical Questionnire (M.Q) and hand to our fitness staff.  This is dependant on Staff avaivalblity, to avoid disappoimntment we suggest you book your first session in advance.

Do I need an induction to use the fintess suite?

Normally you do not, however certqin groups do, (for example those with certain medical conditions and all our  teen gym users.) Our medical questionnaire contains sections asking if you would like one or not.  Please speak to a member of fitness staff for more informaion.

I want an induction, is there a charge for this?

No if you want one this is included with your gym visit.

What service are offered with every IEP?

An individual exercise programme.  An IEP Review.  Sports specific training advice.  Nutritional advice.  Fitness testing.  Booking may be required to avail of these services

I am under 16 can I still use the fitness suite?

Yes, if you are 12 years of age or above.  However you require a medical questionniare signed by your legal guardian and an induction is required.  You can only use the fitness suite during prearranged teen gym times unless accompaned by an adult.

I have a medical condition can I use the fitness suite?

You will need to complete a medical questionnare and the fitness advisor will advise you.  You may need a letter from your G.P. stating you are fit to exercise.

I am pregnant can I use the fitness suite?

Yes as long as you were exercising before you became pregnant. In other circumstances please consult a doctor before starting to exericse.

I am disabled can i use the fitness suite?

Of course you can have a wide range of accessible equipment and an instructor will be more than happy to help you get the most form it.

Do I need to bring a towel?

No, paper towels are provided but we would prefer if you brought a towel, anti-bacterial spray is provided.
