This is your place to move and feel good
Children’s Mental Health Week (9-15 February) is led by the national charity Place2Be and aims to shine a spotlight on the emotional well-being of children and young people.
This year’s theme is ‘This is my place’ with an emphasis on the support systems around children and young people to help them feel that they belong.
Being active and fit is good for everyone’s health and well-being and getactiveabc champions sport and exercise to help build a sense of belonging and good fitness habits early in life!
Through a comprehensive programme of activities aimed at children and young people of all abilities, the aim is to build positive and life-long health and well-being habits.
With gymnastics, watersports, swimming, dancing and more, children and young people can learn to master new skills, focus on an activity they love, build social connections and receive feedback from their coaches, which in turn develops confidence and boosts emotional resilience and well-being.
Inclusive activities are also available to ensure disabled people can engage in and enjoy health and recreational activities in an environment that suits their needs, including inclusive swim sessions at Banbridge, Orchard and South Lake Leisure Centres, inclusive cycling, disability sports, inclusive gym sessions and more.
A range of programme including Girls’ Active, MUGA and Friday Night Sports Club (South Lake Leisure Centre) are also delivered in partnership with schools and local communities to extend the reach to children and young people participating in sports and exercises.
