Positive connections in ABC to light up October
October marks Positive Ageing Month and final preparations are underway with a bumper programme of events to celebrate and enhance the lives of those aged 50-plus across the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon borough.
The diverse range of activities are a wonderful opportunity to make new connections, get active or discover new hobbies, with events being held in venues in Armagh, Portadown, Lurgan, Banbridge, Dromore as well as in our local villages and rural centres.
Lord Mayor of ABC Borough and a Council Age Friendly Champion, Ald Stephen Moutray is a member of the 50-plus club. He said the annual Positive Ageing Month campaign is becoming increasingly important, with more and more people living longer.
“With the over 50s population growing here in the ABC Borough and across the country it’s so important that we support each other as we get older and Positive Ageing Month is a fantastic of way of doing this,” said the Lord Mayor.
“During the month, there is a range of great exercise classes, health checks, arts and crafts and events which offer advice on how to keep safe and well. I would encourage everyone to take a read through the Positive Ageing Month programme and see if there is something that you are interested in and you can also recommend this to a relative, friend or neighbour.”
He added: “There is no pressure to take part or join up to a new club; by simply deciding to come along – that could make all the difference.”
Across getactiveabc, there’s everything from bat and chat, walking football and walking netball, to community bike rides, orienteering, boccia, dancing and more! Other council events include free health checks, tea dances, creative events, story telling and lots more.
