Sit less and move more for ‘On Your Feet Britain’ day
The Get Moving ABC Partnership is encouraging workplaces across the borough to take part in ‘On Your Feet Britain’ on 30 April – an awareness day encouraging over 2 million desk-based workers to sit less and move during the working day!
Sedentary lifestyles, particularly in office-based roles can have a damaging impact on health and well-being. Research shows that excessive sitting is linked to health issues, including increased risk of heart disease and diabetes, poor posture and back pain, lowered energy levels and reduced productivity and increased risk of obesity and some cancers.
Breaking up long periods of sitting with regular movement can go a long way towards boosting focus, physical well-being and mental health, helping employees feel more energised throughout the day.
‘On Your Feet Britain’ is the perfect opportunity to get the ball rolling and encourage employees and colleagues to take a stand against prolonged sitting. Some simple yet effective ideas include standing up to take a phone call, holding walk and talk meetings, using the stairs instead of the lift, setting reminders to stand up and stretch every 30 minutes and taking your lunch break outdoors with a short walk.
