ACCESS ALL AREAS
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy leisure activities and spend time being active. Delivered by the council and our trusted partners, our inclusive programmes detailed below offer a range of accessible indoor and outdoor activities for all ages and abilities.
What do we mean by inclusion?
At getactiveabc we try to create opportunities for as many people as possible, regardless of their ability or disability, to participate in meaningful activity. When we promote an activity as ‘inclusive’ it means that we have put some measures in place to support you or your child, to reduce barriers and to increase the range of people who can get involved. This doesn’t always mean everyone, but if you think there is a change that would make a difference to you, please get in touch.
Some of the measures you can expect to see:
Quieter environments | Smaller number of participants | Increased ratios of staff to children | Adapted activities e.g. simplified rules, circuit style to avoid waiting | A focus on fun and participation, when appropriate, although we recognise that many disabled people also enjoy competition | Adapted equipment e.g. sports wheelchairs, tactile toys, jingle balls, lowered or raised targets | Trained and experienced staff | Opportunities to bring a sibling or friend

INCLUSIVE CLUBS & SUMMER SCHEMES
With experienced staff on hand to help everyone take part with confidence, our inclusive summer schemes and clubs offer inclusive opportunities to get active, learn new skills, and enjoy time in a supportive and welcoming environment.
ACCESSIBLE FACILITIES & EQUIPMENT HIRE
We work in partnership with AccessAble to provide accessibility information about our council facilities and a range of venues across the borough.
These detailed guides provide factual information and photographs to assist those with a disability to know in real terms how accessible a place or venue is prior to their visit.
