Diversionary Activities

The Diversionary Activities project will:

  • Increase sporting opportunities for young people
  • Increase physical activity levels of participants
  • Develop social, cross community and good relations opportunities
  • Provide diversionary activities for this identified target age group

This programme is funded by Department for Communities, and Armagh City, Banbridge, Craigavon Borough Council and is fully organised and delivered by the Sports Development Team.

What are Diversionary Activities?

The Diversionary Activities project is a FREE initiative for participants aged 12-17 which aims to provide a number of community youth diversionary participation opportunities in the form of sports and physical activity to help combat ASB across the Borough.  These have typically been delivered as Street Sports (ie: Street Soccer, Midnight Soccer, Street Basketball) but can come in many forms.  Alongside the sporting opportunities, participants will also take part in a range of other workshops and activities focusing on good relations, health awareness, team building, music, dance among others

Who is the project for?

The Diversionary Activities project is for young people aged between 12 – 17 years, who are interested in getting active in their community.

Where are Diversionary Activities held?

At various indoor / outdoor leisure venues across the Borough

When is the next / current project?

  • Friday Night Sports Club – Coming Feb 2025 to South Lake Leisure Centre
  • Saturday Night Street Soccer – Coming March 2025 to Cathedral Road 3G in Armagh
