AIN’T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH FOR MARISSA
Marissa Slevin has been mountain climbing for over 10 years. During lockdown her interest developed further and she spent more of her free time on the Mourne mountains in between outdoor bootcamps and gym strength sessions at the Orchard Leisure Centre.
On Monday 2 May, Marissa took on a new challenge, the renowned Mourne Seven Sevens Challenge. The ultimate test of endurance and mountain climbing skills. The objective of the challenge is to climb all seven peaks in the Mourne Mountains, over 700m above sea level, including Slieve Donard, Slieve Commedagh, Slieve Lamagan, Slieve Binnian, Slieve Meelbeg, Slieve Meelmore and Slieve Bernagh.
Marissa covered a total of 18.58 miles of mountain peaks in 7hrs 14mins, typical duration for this challenge would be between 10-12 hours. Marissa was delighted with her performance stating, “I was absolutely delighted with my time, I still can’t believe it. I would like to express my thanks to the getactiveabc team at the Orchard Leisure Centre for their unbelievable support and encouragement throughout my training”.
