As part of their youth development programme, Triathlon Ireland hosts their first ‘Boost Triathlon Training’ session at South Lake Leisure Centre today, Sunday 22 May.
South Lake relishes new role as Ulster Boost Triathlon Hub
South Lake Leisure Centre Manager, Paul Coleman said:
“The centre is thrilled to be selected as the Ulster Boost Triathlon Hub, offering young local athletes the opportunity to meet and train with other junior athletes in their region and obtain high-level guidance from qualified Triathlon Ireland coaches. It is wonderful that the Boost Hubs across Ireland will include training for the first time in open water swimming. We hope to see more young athletes getting involved and benefiting from these regular training sessions facilitated by highly experienced Triathlon Ireland coaches”
Overseen by the Triathlon Ireland Development Team and linked to the Emerging Talent Programme and High Performance Unit, the hubs operate in partnership with regional clubs, coaches and parents, helping junior athletes reach their potential in a fun and engaging environment. Triathlon Ireland wants to create a clear and supportive pathway for junior athletes to progress towards High Performance and the regional training hubs are an important step on the pathway programme.
Triathlon Ireland aims to ensure the hubs are as inclusive as possible and will offer regular opportunities for junior athletes with a disability, linking with organisations such as CARA to deliver inclusive sessions.
Catering for a wide range of ability levels, the hub participation sessions are for anyone who wants to try triathlon, whether you are in a club already or have never tried out triathlon. You must be aged 12-17 and have a Triathlon Ireland membership.
In order to participate:
- You will need to be able to ride a bike and have your own bike which is in good working order and helmet
- You will need running shoes
- You will need to be able to swim comfortably out of your depth – this won’t be a requirement for every session and details will be provided at registration as to whether the training schedule incorporates a swim session.
