Anthony was spurred on to do the Couch to 5k when his wife signed them both up for the Sea to Summit in Westport Co Mayo, an adventure race which involves road running, cycling and a hike up and down Croagh Patrick!

This was quite a challenge for Anthony who had recently taken up cycling, but he hadn’t run since playing underage football many years ago.

Anthony says “I thought I better get prepared for the adventure race so I signed up for the Couch to 5k. I really struggled with the first few sessions and honestly thought I’d never be fit enough to run the 5k. With the support of the coaches, I stuck at it, meet a few new friends and since completing the programme we regularly run together 2-3 times a week. We have also completed several 10k runs together!”

Despite a foot injury last year, which prevented him from running for a few weeks, Anthony was keen to get back to the running! You could say he’s got the running bug! This year, Anthony aims to beat his PB!

Anthony adds; “The format of the Couch to 5k is ideal for anyone new to running and it allows you to build up your fitness gradually. I really surprised myself by completing the programme and how I have grown to love running.”
