Running brings a fresh dynamic to Fiona’s fitness

Fiona Boyd from Craigavon signed up for the Couch to 5k programme, along with her sister in September 2023.
An experienced cyclist, Fiona had done some running in previous years, but she was keen to get more active, improve her overall well-being and meet new people.
Transitioning from cycling to running requires a few adjustments to make the most of both sports, while keeping your body strong and injury-free and Fiona saw the Couch to 5k programme as a great way to get into routine and build her stamina and resilience.
Since completing Couch to 5k, Fiona has completed runs across Ireland and the City Park Parkrun in Craigavon on Saturdays remains a permanent fixture in her weekend schedule!
Fiona says: “I love running! For me it’s a great way to keep fit and trim. A 5k run is a brilliant way to clear my head after a busy day. The programme is well structured for all fitness levels. The walk – run intervals were perfect for gradually helping me to build up my fitness at a realistic and achievable pace and to avoid stress and injury on my bones and joints.
