New Running Programmes To Get You Moving

March 21, 2022

Spring into action and improve your health and wellbeing on one of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s latest running programmes.

Open to all residents from the borough, programmes include a Virtual Couch to 5K, a Virtual 5K to 10K and an in person Couch to 5K, offering you the choice to build up your fitness while working around your own schedule.

First to get underway on Monday 28 March, the free Virtual 5K to 10K programme is perfect for those who have recently completed a Couch to 5K or for those keen to increase their running distance. During the 10-week training plan, participants will undertake three running sessions per week leaving from their own front door on the days and times that suit them best.

The following week will see the Virtual Couch to 5K and the in person Couch to 5K get underway on Tuesday 5 April. Costing £32, the in person Couch to 5K will take place at South Lake Leisure Centre every Tuesday and Thursday from 6.45pm to 7.30pm for eight weeks. Participants will receive two coached sessions per week and will complete a third by themselves. Meanwhile the free Virtual Couch to 5K will see participants complete three runs every week for eight weeks at a time and location suitable to them.

Encouraging everyone to give one of the programmes a go, Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Alderman Glenn Barr commented,

“Our running programmes are for everyone, whether you’ve never run before or you just want to become more active. The health benefits of physical activity are vast – from reducing the risk of chronic illnesses such as heart disease and type two diabetes to boosting your mood and keeping your weight under control.”

“We are delighted that we can offer our residents the opportunity to get fitter and healthier at a time and a place that suits them. And, with our Craigavon Lakes 10K and 5K race just around the corner, this provides the perfect chance for our runners to put their training to the test, set some personal bests and have some fun at the same time!”

The programmes’ qualified instructors will help keep motivation levels up by sharing training plans, tips and inspirational messages on a weekly basis.
