New Running Programmes To Get You Moving

March 21, 2022

Spring into action and improve your health and wellbeing for 2023 on one of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s latest running programmes.

Taking up running can feel like a scary prospect – especially for beginners – but now you can get the support and guidance you need to train up to the 5K or 10k distance on Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s spring running programmes.

Perfect for those new to or returning to running, our Couch to 5k programmes will commence from Tuesday 18th April and will run for eight weeks at the following locations and times:

  • The Mall, Armagh: Every Tuesday and Thursday, 9.30am – 10.15am
  • Solitude Park, Banbridge: Every Tuesday and Thursday, 6.30pm – 7.15pm
  • Lurgan Park: Every Tuesday and Thursday, 6.30pm – 7.15pm

At a cost of £32, participants will receive two coached sessions from qualified instructors every week and will complete a third weekly session by themselves as well as pick up a t-shirt and a medal upon completion of the course.

However, if you prefer the freedom of doing the programme at a time and place that’s convenient to you and at no cost, the Virtual Couch to 5K Programme is just for you. Receiving weekly training plans, tips and inspirational messages from qualified instructors, participants will follow the schedule by themselves.

An exciting addition to our programme is our Sight Loss pilot programme. We are delighted to offer 4 free spaces to individuals with a visual impairment at our Lurgan Park C25K programme. All VI runners will be paired with a fully trained guide runner who will support and guide VI participants at every session. The guides have been trained thanks to our partnership with VI Guide and Guide Runners NI.

At the end of the eight weeks, all participants across all programmes will be able to complete a 5K Parkrun.

For those who wish to challenge themselves and progress from running 5k to 10k, our free virtual 5km – 10km programme will commence on 17th April. Participants will undertake three running sessions per week leaving from their own front door on the days and times that suit them best.

With our Craigavon Lakes 10k and 5k race just around the corner, this provides the perfect chance for runners to put their training to the test, set some personal bests and have some fun at the same time!
