Love Parks Week – 12-16 August

Celebrate Love Parks Week 2024 and take part in our jam packed programme of activities taking place across the borough.

From walking tours to forest school taster sessions and traditional playground games the range of activities on offer is sure to inspire children and adults alike to get outside and enjoy our beautiful parks and green spaces.

See the full list of  activities on offer below. ALL of the activities need to be booked as spaces are limited so book early to avoid missing out.

Start your day with a short session of relaxing exercises in an outdoor setting with the sun shining on your back (fingers crossed)!

This activity is for adults only.

Guided Farm Tour 

The Guided Farm Tour is fully booked

Monday 12 August | 10.30am

Tannaghmore Gardens & Animal Farm | FREE

Meet your tour guide at the front gates of the farm. The guide will introduce you to our resident farm animals and you will learn how we take care of our furry
friends throughout the year.

This activity is suitable for children over 3 years old | Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Forest School Taster  

Forest School Taster at Scarva Park is fully booked

Monday 12 August | 1.00pm – 3.00pm

Scarva Park | FREE

Forest School is an inspirational process that naturally inspires regular outdoor opportunities, developing confidence and self-esteem. By using hands-on experiences such as constructing rope swings and natural crafts, our forest schools increase connection with the outdoor environment, nurture a culture of  collaboration and ensure everyone is learning in a relaxed natural space where being outside is fun.

This activity is aimed at children aged 6-10 years.

Tree Study & Nature Activities  

Tuesday 13 August | 10.00am – 12.00pm

Tannaghmore Gardens | FREE

Learn how to identify the majestic giants of our countryside. Activities include bark rubbing, seed collection and exploring the life cycle of trees.

For 6-10 years | Booking is essential and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Children Hula Hooping

Traditional Playground Games 

Traditional Playground Games at the Palace Stables is fully booked

Tuesday 13 August | 2.00pm – 4.00pm

Palace Stables | FREE

Join our Play Development team and try your hand at some traditional playground games such as skipping, hula hoops and hopscotch, visit the school room and get transported back in time, and enjoy a scavenger hunt in the beautiful gardens of Palace Demesne.

This activity is aimed at children aged 4-8 years and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult

Geology Walking Trail 

Tuesday 13 August | 7.00pm – 8.30pm

Lurgan Town | FREE

Meeting at War Memorial in Lurgan Town Centre, this walking tour will take participants on a journey through time, as told through the diverse building stones seen in the many landmark buildings including Brownlow House, Shankill Parish Church, the War Memorial and St Peter’s Parish Church. Participants will find out about Lurgan’s underlying geology, and the origins of the building stone used in many of the town’s historic buildings.

Activities include pond dipping, bug hunts, nature walks and arts and crafts.
