Stramore Park is located off the Stramore Road, Gilford, next to the Upper River Bann. Gilford Community Centre was built in the Park and opened in 2012. As part of the development, a new footbridge across the river was provided. Follow the approx. 0.16 mile/0.26 km circular trail at Stramore Park next to the Community Centre, pausing at the viewing platform over the river, and enjoy great views of the once-mighty Dunbar & McMaster flax spinning mill. From the eighteenth to the mid- twentieth century linen production was a very important industry along the Upper River Bann Valley and in Ulster, providing work for many people.
For a longer stroll or cycle, follow the riverside trail on the other bank of the river. This follows the route of the former mill race from Bridge Street, past the former Gilford Mill buildings to Woodlands Park with its lovely old trees
Amenities include riverside open space and a flat, surfaced walking and cycling path, with seating, picnic tables and riverside viewing platform, trim trail with 8 outdoor fitness stations, a pump track, a flat water canoe slalom course and canoe steps. For a longer walk or cycle take the footbridge over the river to join the riverside walking and cycling trail which runs from Bridge Street to Woodlands Park.
